Two New TV Shows

This week there were two new TV shows called Alkatraz and The Lost Girl. I thought they would be a good fit for my DVR time along with Being Human, Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries.

Alkatraz had a two hour premier on ABC and is based on the prison closing in 1963. All prisoners were transferred to other prisons when it closed and many had since died. Fast forward to 2012 and all of a sudden prisoners from 1963 start showing up. The catch is these prisoners haven't aged and are killing people again. We are led to believe there is a higher power controlling these prisoners and setting up a hit list of people. Being that these are the most violent prisoners on the planet they of course have their own agenda on who to kill. I got a "Lost" feeling and it was pretty boring through most of the show. I felt no connection with any of the characters and when one of the investigators was shot it seemed very predictable. I will give it one more Record on the DVR but after that it needs to carry itself or it will be deleted.

The Lost Girl on SyFy was the total opposite of Alkatraz. Right off the bat I was into a program that had likeable, colorful characters. Lost Girl centers around a Woman who sucks the life out of people to survive and can also control them with a touch, otherwise known as a Succubus. Unknown to her she is a Fae who should belong to either the Light Fae or the Dark Fae. Once both sides of the Fae find out about her they kidnap her and force her to fight to the death. She of course wins her challenges but refuses to choose a side of light or dark. Her pocket picking human side kick is a funny, bright addition to her team. The beautiful werewolf that encourages her to do right is an investigator for the police. He has decided to keep an eye on her.  This show definitely will be staying on my DVR.
