Dining Out
Since Jim's Dad has moved in with us we eat out a lot more than we used to. Jim's Dad requires three meals a day. He makes his cereal in the morning and will have a sandwich or left overs for lunch but at dinner time he wants a meal. I am still getting used to the extra dishes and cleaning that comes from having another man in the house that is allergic to anything that sounds like housework. He will wash his own glasses though as he was using up to five glasses a day and then leaving them for me to wash. I told him right away that he needed to wash them himself. I'm getting off track, so anyway, I am not much of a chef so this has led to us eating out more. Here are our opinions of some of the places we eat at in the area.
- KFC - East Silver Springs Blvd. - Ordered a two piece grilled dinner, two piece crispy chicken dinner and a potato bowl. The chicken pieces are small, the crispy chicken wasn't crispy and the potato bowl had very little corn or gravy on it. Everything was pretty mushy and tasteless.
- Firehouse Subs - East Silver Springs Blvd. - Subs are pricey but very tasty. We really like the food here.
- Sonnys BBQ - East Silver Springs Blvd. - It seems that if we go when its not busy we get really good food with good portions but if we go when its busy then we tend to get smaller portions, mushy french fries and under cooked meat.
- Long John Silvers - East Silver Springs Blvd. - The Seafood and chicken is hot and crispy as it should be but the fries are always cold, limp and sometimes not cooked all the way.
- Terrys Bar & Grill - NE 36th Ave. - We have always gotten good food here but the service sucks and it doesn't matter if they are busy or not it takes forever to get your food.
- McDonalds & Wendys - East Silver Springs Blvd. - Their food is up to par for a fast food place and usually consistent no matter what time you go.
- Burger King - East Silver Springs Blvd. - This place is very inconsistent sometimes the food is good and sometimes you want to throw it away. We try to not eat here much because of that. Plus they want over three bucks for a crosandwich which is totally over priced considering the size of it.
- Steak & Shake - East Silver Springs Blvd. - Food is usually good but portions are small for the big prices that they charge, the guys always come home hungry. Service is sometimes pretty slow.
- Pronto Pizza - East Silver Springs Blvd. - Tasty Pizza but pretty costly.
- Little Caesars Pizza - East Silver Springs Blvd. - For five bucks you can get a large pepperoni pizza, now thats a deal however they are pretty spicy. I like the Italian Cheese bread most of the time but sometimes they either cook it too long or put too much pepper on it.
- Maries - In the Forest - We have been through a few cooks here so sometimes the food is good and sometimes its just ok. Prices are pretty fair for most things. We don't go here much anymore as the latest cook isn't that good in our opinion.
- Kicken Back Cafe - In the Forest - We have eaten there twice and wont go back. The food is very expensive and just so so in quality and portions. We received half cooked waffle fries and super slim pork chops. If we had wanted to pay extra for a different side of which there are few to choose from we could have.
- Subway - In the Forest - These people need to get a clue, if you order a sandwich like the one pictured then thats how it should be delivered, I shouldn't have to say add sweet onion sauce to my sweet onion chicken teriyaki sandwich. Also how a toaster oven can cause the bread to be all rubbery like it was microwaved is beyond me.
- Dennys - East Silver Springs Blvd.- I have only gotten bad food there once and the Manager made it right for me even though I didn't make a fuss, but Jim has never been happy with his food there and refuses to go back. Service to be seated and to pay can be extremely slow.
- LaRoccas - East Silver Springs Blvd. - So many people like the food here that I have given it three times. Once for breakfast I had cold tough french toast, greasy cold bacon and tasteless cold grits this was from their breakfast buffet. Then I went for lunch and dinner, I forget what I had but I do remember thinking to myself how can people like this food?
- Lena's Seafood - In the Forest - I love this place as does Jim's Dad. If you like fried seafood food (thats all they serve) they give you LOTS of food. Everything is served on Paper plates with paper napkins, plastic utensils and Styrofoam cups. They aren't open all the time so its best to call and see what their hours for the week are. I had clam strip withdrawal the month of Sept. when they were closed.
Well thats all for now, remember these are just our opinions on the restaurants in the area that we frequent, you may like your food prepared differently and find these places acceptable.
